Reliance Foundation Signed MoU with INCOIS For Coastal Community Empowerment
The Reliance Foundation and the Hyderabad (Telangana)-based Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India (GoI), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to empower coastal residents.
This cooperation between the Reliance Foundation and INCOIS will focus on leveraging ocean data to improve climate resilience and catastrophe mitigation.
The Reliance Foundation seeks to serve roughly 25% of India’s active marine fisherman families, especially in eight states.
Reliance Foundation assists women in connecting and taking advantage of plans to boost profits from fish production and other high-value fishing operations.
Additionally, INCOIS is encouraging sustainable practices in the blue economy by integrating multi-hazard vulnerability maps with resilience initiatives and launching the ‘Tsunami Ready Villages’ program to protect coastal villages against tsunamis.

DoT Introduces New Mobile Number Series For Service & Transactional Calls
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has launched the 160 series for making service and transactional phone calls.
It attempts to assist Indian residents in identifying legal calls and reducing unwanted calls from telemarketers by utilizing 10-digit mobile numbers.
The 160 series will replace the 140 series, which is presently used by telemarketers for promotional, service, and transactional calls; nevertheless, the 140 series will continue to be utilized for promotional purposes.
The new 160 series will clearly distinguish between legal service and transactional calls and spammers, allowing consumers to better control their interactions.
It will be offered to all Telecom Service Providers.
The Department of Telecom has also suggested that telecom carriers employ the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) Do Not Disturb (DND) function to prohibit unsolicited advertising calls.

IAF Participates in ‘Red Flag 24-2’ Exercise in Alaska,USA
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has landed Rafale, its most sophisticated fighter aircraft, at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska, United States of America (USA), to take part in the international Red Flag 24-2 exercise.
Key Points:
- The Red Flag-Alaska 24-2 military exercise will last two weeks, beginning on May 30th, 2024 and ending on June 14th.
- The IAF has dispatched eight Rafale fighters, three C-17 transport aircraft, and two IL-78 mid-air refueling aircraft to Eielson Air Force Base.
- The IAF will get valuable expertise by exercising with some of the most sophisticated combat aircraft and weaponry systems. This is the first time the IAF Rafael has trained with the F-35 stealth fighter.
About Red Flag Alaska:
- The Red Flag exercise is a worldwide scenario that replicates a genuine and tough situation.
- It combines aircrew and equipment from many nations and services.
- The Red Flag practice takes place in two locations: Nevada’s Nellis Air Force Base and Alaska.
- The exercise in Nevada is coordinated by the United States Air Force Warfare Center (USAFWC).
- The first Red Flag exercise in 2024, dubbed 24-1, was restricted to the United States Air Force.
- The exercise in Alaska is organised by the Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), the air component command of the United States’ Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM).
Note: The Indian Navy also dispatched its indigenous stealth frigate INS Shivalik to Ex RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific), which will take place in Hawaii, USA, from June 25 to August 2, 2024.

OECD Report: Developed Countries Provided USD 115.9 Bn Climate Finance for Developing Countries in 2022
According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) research, Climate Finance Provided and Mobilized by Developed nations in 2013-2022, developed nations would supply and mobilize USD 115.9 billion in climate finance for poor countries in 2022.
For the first time, this exceeds the yearly USD 100 billion objective by more than 15%.
This is the OECD’s seventh evaluation of progress toward the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) objective, which was adopted in 2009.

NSO Released Provisional Estimates of Annual GDP for FY24 & Quarterly Estimates of GDP for Q4 of FY24 (Current Affairs 4th June 2024)
On May 31, 2024, the National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), released the Provisional Estimates (PE) of Annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for FY24 (2023-24) and Quarterly Estimates of GDP for Q4 (January-March) of FY24, both at Constant (2011-12) and Current Prices.
Key Points:
- In FY24, Real GDP at Constant Prices is expected to reach Rs 173.82 lakh crore, up from Rs 160.71 lakh crore in FY23, according to the First Revised Estimates (FRE).
- Real GDP is predicted to rise by 8.2% in FY24, compared to 7.0% in FY23 (2022-23).
- India’s GDP growth rate in Q4FY24 was 7.8%, while Gross Value Added (GVA) is expected to expand at 6.3%.

India Received Maximum FDI from Singapore Followed By Mauritius in FY24: GoI data (Current Affairs 4th June 2024)
According to the most recent data released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India (GoI), India eceived the most Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Singapore in FY24 (2023-24), despite FDI equity inflows into the country falling by about 3.5% in FY24, from USD 46.03 billion (FY23) to USD 44.42 billion (FY24) due to global economic uncertainties.
Mauritius became India’s second largest investor in FY24, investing USD 7.97 billion, followed by the United States of America (USD 4.99 billion), the Netherlands (USD 4.93 billion), Japan (USD 3.17 billion), the United Arab Emirates (UAE) (USD 2.9 billion), Germany (USD 505 million), and the Cayman Islands (USD 342 million).
- Total FDI decreased by only 1%, from USD 71.35 billion in FY23 to USD 70.95 billion in FY24.

Bloomberg Billionaires Index: Gautam Adani Ranked 11th Richest Globally & Became Asia’s Richest Person (Current Affairs 4th June 2024)
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Gautam Adani, the Founder and Chairman of the Adani Group, is currently the world’s 11th richest person, with a net worth of USD 111 billion. With this, he recaptured the title of Asia’s richest person following a rise in the stock prices of his conglomerate’s subsidiaries.
This increase allowed him to overcome Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), who was placed 12th with a net worth of USD 109 billion.
According to the index (as of June 3, 2024), Adani’s net worth has climbed by USD 26.8 billion, while Ambani’s fortune has increased by USD 12.7 billion.
Adani Enterprises, the group’s main firm, recorded sales of USD 17 billion for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023.

India’s 1st UN Woman Permanent Representative Ruchira Kamboj Retires (Current Affairs 4th June 2024)
Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, India’s first woman Permanent Representative (PR) to the United Nations (UN), will retire on June 1, 2024, following nearly 35 years of meritorious service.
From August 2022 until June 2024, she was India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, United States of America (USA).
About Ruchira Kamboj:
Ruchira Kamboj is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer from the 1987 batch. She began her diplomatic career as the third secretary at India’s Embassy in France (1989–1991).
1991 – 1996: She worked as an Under Secretary in the Europe West Division of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India (GoI).
1996 – 1999: Ruchira Kamboj was the Indian High Commission’s 1st Secretary (Economic and Commercial) and Head of Chancery in Port Louis, Mauritius.
1999 – 2002: She was Deputy Secretary and then Director in Charge of Foreign Service Personnel and Cadre at MEA, one of the longest tenures in this critical administrative job.
- From 2002 to 2005, she worked as Counsellor in India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, and from 2006 to 2009, she was Consul General of India in South Africa.
- From 2011 to 2014, she was India’s Chief of Protocol, as well as the Deputy Head of the Office of the Secretary-General at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London (UK). She was the first and only woman to occupy the job.
- She also served as Ambassador to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) from 2014 till 2017.
- From 2017 to 2019, she served as India’s High Commissioner to South Africa, with concurrent accreditation to the Kingdom of Lesotho.
- In 2019, she was appointed as India’s 18th Ambassador to Bhutan, becoming the first woman diplomat to hold the position.

Businesswoman Halla Tomasdottir Elected as New President of Iceland (Current Affairs 4th June 2024)
Halla Tómasdóttir, an Icelandic businessperson and Independent Candidate, became Iceland’s 7th President after winning the 2024 presidential election with 34.3% of the vote. Halla Tomasdottir will take over as President of Iceland on August 1, 2024.
She will follow Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, the 6th President of Iceland, who has been serving since 2016.
She will become Iceland’s second woman president, succeeding Vigdis Finnbogadottir, who was the world’s first woman to be legitimately elected president in 1980.
2024 Presidential Election:
- The 2024 Presidential Election was conducted on June 1, 2024.
- Halla Tomasdotti won the presidential election, defeating Katrina Jakobsdottir, Iceland’s previous Prime Minister (PM), who came in second with 25.2% of the vote, and Halla Hrund Logadottir, Director of Energy Affairs at Orkustofnun, who received 15.5%.
Note: In 2016, Halla Tomasdotti ran for president and finished second with approximately 30% of the vote.

- In 2006, she was appointed as the Iceland Chamber of Commerce’s first female CEO.

Dinesh Karthik officially announces retirement from all forms of cricket (Current Affairs 4th June 2024)
Dinesh Karthik, a former India wicketkeeper-batsman, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on June 1, 2024, after playing for the country for 20 years.
Though his retirement was expected to be declared after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were ousted from the Indian Premier League (IPL), he made it official on his 39th birthday.
About Career Achievements of Dinesh Karthik :
Dinesh Karthik rose to prominence with his aerial stumping of Michael Vaughan in England in 2004, while coached by Sourav Ganguly.
At the age of 19, he made his national debut in a One-Day International against England at Lord’s. Karthik finishes his 401 T20 outings with 7407 runs, including 34 half-centuries, at a strike rate of over 137.
During his 17-year IPL career, Karthik played for six clubs. He began his career with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008, moved to Punjab in 2011, and has since played for the Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders, and RCB.
He finished his IPL career with 4,842 runs in 257 matches, second only to Rohit Sharma, and 22 victories.The Tamil Nadu cricketer has represented India in 180 games across three formats, scoring 3463 runs, including a lone Test century and 17 half centuries.
- He also has 172 dismissals to his name, 151 catches, and 21 stumpings.
- Karthik scored 1,792 runs and nine half-centuries in 94 ODIs.
- He scored 1,025 runs in 26 Tests. He scored 686 runs in 60 Twenty20 International games.
- He last played for India in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, against Zimbabwe, captained by Rohit Sharma.
- He has also played for Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.
Karthik also represented Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a T20 competition, twice as captain in 2006-07 and 2020-21.

Badminton: India’s Tanvi Sharma won Women’s’ Singles Title at Yonex Bonn International 2024 (Current Affairs 4th June 2024)
Tanvi Sharma (15), an Indian shuttler, defeated Wang Pei Yu of Chinese Taipei to win the Women’s Singles championship at the Yonex Bonn International 2024.
Yonex Bonn International 2024, a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Future Series Event, took place from May 29th to June 1st, 2024 in Bonn, Germany.
Cheng Kai of Chinese Taipei won the Men’s Singles championship, beating Gustav Bjorkler of Sweden.

Tanvi Sharma of Punjab won the gold medal for the Indian Women’s Team in the Badminton Asia Team Championships in Selangor, Malaysia in February 2024.
She also earned a silver medal in the Badminton Asia Under 17 (U-17) Junior Championship in Chengdu, China, in 2023.

The Indian women’s doubles team of Srinidhi Narayanan and Radhika Sharma finished third. In the semifinals, they were defeated by Turkish competitors Yasemen Bektas and Zehra Erdem.
- The Turkish duo won the Women’s doubles title by defeating Yi En Hsieh and Ruo Hsuan Ko of Chinese Taipei in the final.
- In the men’s doubles, Prakash Raj and Gouse Sheik finished third. In the semi-finals, they were beaten by Noah Haase and Dyon van Wijlick of the Netherlands.

Taiwan Athletics Open 2024: India won 7 Medals Including 3 Gold (Current Affairs 4th June 2024)
Indian athletes won seven medals, including three golds, three silvers, and one bronze, in the Taiwan Athletics Open 2024, which took place from June 1 to 2, 2024, at Taipei Municipal Stadium in Taipei City, Taiwan.
The Chinese Taipei Athletics Association organised the Taiwan Athletics Open 2024, which is sanctioned by World Athletics.
Winners from India:
Nayana James, an Indian athlete, won the gold medal in the women’s long jump with a 6.43m leap. Sumire Hata of Japan won the silver medal, while Yu Jeongmi of South Korea won the bronze.
This is Nayana James’ fourth podium of the 2024 season. She previously won the gold medal in the women’s long jump in the third Indian Open Jumps Competition, which took place in March 2024. She also won gold in the Women’s Long Jump at the Federation Cup in May 2024.
Indian track and field athlete Devarakeshavi Prakasha (DP) Manu won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event, throwing 81.58 meters.
Cheng Chao-tsun of Chinese Taipei, who owns the Asian record of 91.36 meters, finished in second place with 76.21 meters, while his colleague Huang Chao-hung took bronze with 71.24.
- This is Manu’s third podium of the season. He had won gold in the Indian Grand Prix 1 in April 2024 and silver at the Federation Cup in May 2024.
- In the men’s 800m, India’s Ankesh Chaudhary won gold in 1:50.63, while compatriot Somnath Chauhan finished second (1:50.88). Lorana Hussein of the Philippines won bronze.
- Ankesh has also won gold in the Men’s 800 m in the Indian Grand Prix-1 and the Federation Cup. Somnath earned silver in the Federation Cup.
Dev Kumar Meena of India won silver in men’s pole vault with a height of 5.10m. v.Nithya Ramraj won silver in the women’s 100m hurdles, and Velluva Koroth Vismaya earned bronze in the 400m.

International Sex Workers’ Day, also known as International Whores’ Day, is marked every year on June 2 to recognize and honor sex workers across the world, as well as to raise awareness of the challenges they confront and their exploitative working conditions.
Every year, the Global Network of Sex Work Projects (NSWP) commemorates International Sex Workers’ Day with the theme “Access to Justice.”

- On June 2, 1975, over 100 sex workers invaded Saint-Nizier Church in Lyon, France, to protest their criminalized and exploitative living conditions.
- International Sex Workers’ Day has been observed on June 2nd every year since 1975 across Europe and around the world.

World Bicycle Day 2024 – June 3 (Current Affairs 4th June 2024)
The United Nations (UN) World Bicycle Day is commemorated every year on June 3 to raise awareness of the bicycle, a clean and ecologically friendly sustainable mode of transportation that supports economic growth and eliminates inequities.
This Day promotes bicycles as an economical, dependable, and sustainable mode of transportation for combating climate change and meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

- On April 12, 2018, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) passed resolution A/RES/72/272, designating June 3 as World Bicycle Day.
