Eligibility Criteria: Are You Ready?

1. Age Limit (as on July 01, 2025):
- Minimum Age: 21 years
- Maximum Age: 30 years
Age Relaxation: Category-wise relaxations are provided as per Government of India norms.
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
- SC/ST: 5 years
- PwBD (General/EWS): 10 years
- PwBD (OBC): 13 years
- PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years
- M.Phil. Degree holders: Up to 32 years
- Ph.D. Degree holders: Up to 34 years
- Ex-servicemen: As per government rules
2. Educational Qualification (as on July 01, 2025):
The educational qualifications vary slightly depending on the specific Grade B post (General, DEPR, DSIM, Legal Officer, Manager). However, for the most common Officers in Grade ‘B’ (DR) – General post, the criteria are:
- Graduation: A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates) or an equivalent grade.
- Post-Graduation: A Master’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 55% marks (pass marks for SC/ST/PwBD candidates) or an equivalent grade.
For other specialized posts like Legal Officer, Manager (Technical-Civil), and Manager (Technical-Electrical), specific bachelor’s degrees in Law, Civil Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with prescribed minimum percentages and experience are required. Candidates are strongly advised to refer to the official notification for detailed educational qualifications for each post.
3. Nationality:
A candidate must be either:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- A subject of Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
4. Number of Attempts:
- General/EWS Candidates: A maximum of 6 attempts are allowed for Phase 1 of the General post.
- SC/ST/OBC/PwBD Candidates: There is no restriction on the number of attempts for reserved categories, provided they meet the age and other eligibility criteria.

Selection Procedure: The Path to Becoming an RBI Grade B Officer
The selection process for RBI Grade B Officer (General) is a rigorous three-stage process designed to assess a candidate’s aptitude, knowledge, and personality.
Phase I: Online Examination (Preliminary)
This is an objective-type online examination, primarily serving as a screening test. The marks obtained in Phase I are not counted towards the final merit list.

Phase II: Online Examination (Main)
Phase II consists of three papers, which are crucial for the final selection. These papers are a mix of objective and descriptive questions.

Phase III: Interview
Candidates who qualify in Phase II will be shortlisted for the Interview round. This is the final stage of the selection process.
- Marks: The interview carries 75 marks.
- Assessment: The interview panel assesses the candidate’s personality, communication skills, leadership qualities, general knowledge, and overall suitability for the Grade B officer role.
- Language: Candidates can opt for the interview in Hindi or English.
Final Selection:
The final merit list is prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained in Phase II (Papers I, II, and III) and the Interview. Marks from Phase I are only for screening purposes and are not considered in the final merit.
