Neeraj Chopra Sets New National Record with 89.30 Metre Javelin Throw at Paavo Nurmi Games

In his first competitive event after after 10 months, ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra did not disappoint as he set a new national record with a 89.30 metre throw in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland. To read more, click here.

Points to remember:

Finland’s Oliver Helander won the gold medal at the event with a throw of 89.83 metres.

Chopra’s earlier national record was 88.07m which he had set in Patiala in March last year.

He had won the Tokyo Olympics gold with a throw of 87.58m on August 7, 2021

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is observed on June 15 every year to raise awareness about abuse and neglect of older persons and raise awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.

Global Wind Day 2022 celebrates globally on 15th June

Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that is observed on June 15 every year. It is organised by WindEurope (EWEA) and Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). The first Wind Day was organised by EWEA in 2007. It reached 18 countries in Europe, with a participation of around 35,000 people.

PM Modi inaugurates Jagatguru Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Shila Mandir in Pune

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated a shila (rock) temple at the Sant Tukaram Maharaj Mandir dedicated to the 17th-century saint at Dehu near Pune. To read more, click here.


Points to remember:

Sant Tukaram was a Warkari saint and poet, famously known for Abhanga devotional poetry and community-oriented worship through spiritual songs known as Kirtans. He lived in Dehu.

Shila Mandir was built after his demise, but it was not formally structured as a Temple. It has been rebuilt in stone masonry with 36 peaks, and also carries an idol of Sant Tukaram.

Russia overtakes Saudi Arabia to become India's 2nd biggest oil supplier

After the U.S. and China, India is the world’s third-largest consumer of oil, over 85 per cent of which is imported.

Iraq remained the top supplier to India in May and Saudi Arabia is now the third biggest supplier.
