What is CDS?

CDS is Combined Defense Services Exam to get into Indian Army, Indian Navy & Indian Air Force. Candidates who aim to serve the nation by joining the defence forces can start applying for the CDS examination.
It is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) twice a year.


Exam Dates & Notification

CDS 1 Exam Date – 10th April 2022

CDS 2 Exam Date – 04th September 2022

The UPSC released the official notification of CDS 1 & 2 exam on their official website www.upsconline.nic.in

CDS 1 is conducted in January while CDS 2 is conducted in July.

Application form fees for CDS Exam are INR 200 for General and OBC male candidates.

SC, ST candidates are exempted from fee payment.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality-

A candidate must be an Indian citizen or a subject to Nepal or a Tibetan refugee and must be unmarried.

Physical Criteria-

Candidates must be physically and mentally fit according to prescribed physical standards for admission to CDS I & II 2022

Permanent body tattoos are not acceptable except on inner face of the forearm and on the reverse side of the palm.

Educational Qualification-

For IMA & Officer's Training Academy, Chennai - Degree of a recognized UniveRs.ity or Equivalent.

For Indian Naval Academy - Degree in Engineering from a recognized UniveRs.ity / Institution

For Air Force Academy - Degree of a recognized UniveRs.ity (with Physics & Mathematics at 10+2 Level) or Bachelor or Engineering.

Exam Structure

 

The Union Public Service Commission conducts the Combined Defence Service (CDS) examination twice every year.

CDS Exam is an objective type written exam of which consists of 3 sections – English, Elementary Mathematics and General Knowledge for IMA, INA and AFA whereas for OTA the written paper consists of 2 sections – English and General Knowledge.

The medium of exam is in English as well as in Hindi.

1/3rd negative marking for every wrong answer.

Stage 2 – SSB (Service Selection Centers) Interview

 

CDS SSB Interview Stage 1

 

Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) is conducted which consists of Picture Perception and Description Test (PP and DT). Candidates will be shortlisted as per their performance in the OIR Test and PP and DT.

 

CDS SSB Interview Stage 2

 

Candidates passing stage 1 will be called for this stageIt consists of Group Testing Officer Tasks, Interview, Conference, and Psychology Test. These tests are organized in four days.
